Welcome to the West of Scotland Space Cluster

The UK’s new regional space cluster aims to leverage almost two decades of engineering and manufacturing excellence in space technology to support the growth of both Scotland and the UK’s end-to-end capability. As an ecosystem shaped by industry for industry, the Cluster will focus on competitiveness, connectedness and collaboration across the region and as a dynamic partner in a thriving UK Space Ecosystem.

#EXPANDINGSPACE

The West of Scotland is home to some of the world’s most innovative satellite manufacturers, with Spire Global UK, AAC Clyde Space, Alba Orbital and Craft Prospect leading the way in Europe Glasgow for the design and building of small satellites that enable a host of dynamic data services

Beyond satellite manufacturing, the region hosts the UK;s largest rocket engine manufacturing facility, run by launch vehicle innovators, Skyrora, as well a range of downstream data companies generating new earth observation-driven services for a wide range of industry sectors. Underpinning the growth of the sector is an established and reactive supply chain across the region which has supported the evolution of some of the UK’s leading space technology companies over the last decade.

In the SpacePort domain, the region has two spaceports under development, one near Machrihanish in Argyll and the other at Prestwick International Airport in South Ayrshire. These will ultimately provide opportunties for both vertical and horizontal launch into low earth orbits.
